The Advanced System Menus patches are a handful of highly customizable patches for webOS 2.1 and later.

The Advanced System Menus patches have been designed to give a consistent look and feel across the webOS top bar. Having all of the Advanced System Menus patches installed will give the best overall experience; however, you can choose to install just the menus you want. Utilizing all or some of the menus and their functionality will not affect the performance of your device.

The Advanced System Menus patches consist of the following set of individual patches:

REQUIRED:

Note: You need to pick the correct framework patch based on your setup.

Advanced System Menus - Framework:

Provides the foundation for the Advanced System Menus patches. This patch is required for the other Advanced Systems Menus patches to function properly..
(Note: This patch is needed for devices (including meta-doctored devices) running a WR (world release) of webOS 2.1; all languages)

Advanced System Menus - Framework (VZW):

Provides the foundation for the Advanced System Menus patches. This patch is required for the other Advanced Systems Menus patches to function properly..
(Note: This patch is needed for the devices running a non-WR (world release) of webOS 2.1; languages EN_US or ES)

OPTIONAL:

Note: If you installed the VZW version of the Advanced System Menus - Framework patch, you should then install the VZW versions of the patches listed below.

Advanced System Menus - Mode Menu:

Extends the functionality of the Mode Switcher application. This patch is not required to use Mode Switcher, but is highly recommended.

Advanced System Menus - Today Menu:

Extends the functionality of your calendars by giving you quick access to your calendar events.

Advanced System Menus - Device Menu:

Extends the functionality of the device menu by giving you quick access to the following options/settings: the system radios (phone, wifi, bluetooth and gps) and preferences, VPN settings, volume levels (system, ringtone and media), screen brightness, flashlight (using the device LED), networks (auto, 2g, 3g), security (unlock, pin, password), voice and data roaming, and data connection. (Note: At this time, after installing this patch, a full restart is required for the flashlight (using the device LED) to work correctly.)

Advanced System Menus - Power Menu:

Extends the functionality of the power menu by simplifying the power menu and adds way to configure the shown actions in the menu. Currently supported actions are: Airplane mode toggle, device sleep toggle (prevent/allow device sleeping), device restart/shutdown and luna restart. (Note: At this time, after installing this patch, a full restart of your device is required for the menu to work correctly.)

Advanced System Menus - App Menu:

Extends the functionality of an application's app menu to be full width across the top bar when an app is in the foreground. The background of the menu is transparent so you can still see the top bar behind it, however tapping anywhere on the top bar will open the application's app menu and prevents the other top bar menus from being activated. This makes the app menu more accessible when using the phone with one hand. Currently the behavior is not configurable, but it will be in the future.

Updating

webOS OTA Updates

The Advanced System Menus patches are not OTA (over-the-air) update safe. When there is an OTA update to a newer version of webOS from your carrier, you must remove these patches before updating. If you do not remove them prior to running the OTA update, you most likely will need to run the Emergency Patch Recovery tool from Preware.

Patch Updates

Updated versions of the Advanced System Menus patches can be applied via Preware.

Usage

Each Advanced System Menus patch is listed below with information on how you access, use and configure the menus.

Throughout the menus, tapping an item in the menu will perform a certain function or present you with more choices (e.g. like a submenu).

Some of the more advanced functionality (e.g. Accessing the menu configuration) might require the use of the Option Key + Tap or Option Key + Swipe. The Option Key is the Orange or Silver key on your device's (depending on your device) keyboard. The Option Key + Swipe simply means to press the Option Key while swiping down the menu.

Another way to access the menu's configuration options would be to Tap and hold (seen the in instructions as "Tap + Hold") your finger on the menu spot which will then open the menu in the edit mode.

Advanced System Menus - Framework

The framework patch provides the foundation for the Advanced System Menus patches. In addition, there are also certain things that the framework patch adds that the other menu patches utilize, such as, a GPS icon and ringer switch icon to the top bar.

Advanced System Menus - Mode Menu

Accessing The Menu:

Tap or Swipe down the left of the screen/top bar (when an app is not in focus).

Using The Menu:

The Mode Menu utilizes the carrier string area of the top bar to display the current mode/status of the Mode Switcher app.

  • If Mode Switcher's Default Mode is active, the carrier string will appear as normal (e.g. Sprint, Verizon, ATT, etc...).
  • If Mode Switcher is running a Normal Mode, the carrier string will be overwritten with the name of that Normal Mode.
  • If Mode Switcher is running a Modifier Mode, the carrier string will have a plus (+) sign appended to the end.
  • If Mode Switcher's mode triggers are locked, the carrier string will be displayed in yellow to signify that the triggers are locked.

With the Mode Menu open, you will see (by default) all of the custom modes listed in the menu.

  • Tap a mode opens a submenu with options for toggling the mode on/off and for opening Mode Switcher directly to that mode for editing.
  • Option + Tap a mode toggles the mode on/off.
  • Tap + Hold the very first menu row will temporarily show all menu items.

The first line (Status:) of the menu when opened, changes based on the current mode/status of the Mode Switcher app as such:

  • Default - Default Mode is active and unmodified
  • Normal - A Normal mode is active and unmodified
  • Modified - The current active mode is being modified by a Modifier mode.

Configuring The Menu:

Option + Tap/Tap + Hold the Mode Menu to configure the menu.

  • Tap a mode name will toggle whether or not it is shown in the menu.
  • Tap the last menu item will go forward in the list of choices when configuring the quick action in the menu (last menu item). Choosing a mode will set the last menu item as a quick toggle for that mode. Choosing "Toggle Triggers Locking" will set the last menu item to a On/Off toggle for Mode Switcher.
  • Option + Tap/Tap + Hold to go backwards in the list of choices when configuring the quick action in the menu (last item).

Advanced System Menus - Today Menu

Accessing The Menu:

Tap or Swipe down the middle of the screen/top bar (when an app is not in focus).

Using The Menu:

  • Tap the date in the menu will open the Calendar app to that day.
  • Tap a calendar event will open the Calendar app to that event's details.
  • Tap the "Show Tomorrow's Events" will show the next day's events.
  • Option + Tap/Tap + Hold the "Show Tomorrow's Events" will show the previous day's events.
  • Option + Tap/Tap + Hold any event will toggle the event's start/end time information.
  • Option + Tap/Tap + Hold a weather event will toggle between low/high temperature information. (This option requires a weather calendar be configured in your Google calendar.)

Configuring The Menu:

Option + Tap/Tap + Hold the Today Menu to configure the menu.

  • Tap a calendar will toggle whether or not it is shown in the menu.
  • Tap the "Show Events for x Days" will toggle between 3 and 7 days worth of events to display.

Advanced System Menus - Device Menu

Accessing The Menu:

Tap or Swipe down the right of the screen/top bar (when an app is not in focus).

Using The Menu:

  • Tap a menu item will expand the submenu for that item, displaying the settings that can be toggled.
  • Tap the quick action (last menu item) can be used to quickly toggle once custom configured setting.
  • Tap the volume heading (e.g. Ringtone, System or Media) in the Device submenu will toggle between the three volume controls.
  • Option + Tap the Roaming Enabled setting under the Phone submenu will toggle Forced Roaming on/off.
  • Tap + Hold the Roaming Enabled to setting under the phone submenu will toggle Forced Roaming on/off.
  • Option + Tap a menu item will perform the first action that exists in the submenu for that menu item. (e.g. Option + Tap the WiFi menu item will toggle the WiFi radio on/off instead of opening the WiFi submenu.
  • Tap + Hold the very first menu row will temporarily show all menu items.

Configuring The Menu:

Option + Tap/Tap + Hold the Device Menu to configure the menu.

  • Tap a menu item will toggle whether or not it is shown in the menu.
  • Tap the quick action (last menu item) will cycle forward through the different settings available. (The item selected will become the toggle for the quick action in the Device menu.)
  • Option + Tap/Tap + Hold the quick action (last menu item) will cycle backward through the different settings available. (The item selected will become the toggle for the quick action in the Device menu.)

Hold down the device's power button for a few seconds.

Using The Menu:

  • Tap a menu item will execute the function selected.

Configuring The Menu:

With the Power Menu already open, press and hold the power button for a few seconds to configure the menu.

Configuring The Menu:

  • Tap + Hold the application menu to toggle the width of the menu between full width (across the top bar) and normal width.

Troubleshooting/FAQs

Q: What version of webOS are these patches available for?
A: The Advanced System Menus patches are available for webOS 2.1 and later.

Q: The flashlight toggle in the Advanced System Menus - Device Menu doesn't seem to work. What's wrong?
A: At this time, you need to do a full restart of your device for the flashlight (using the device LED) to work properly.

Q: The Advanced System Menus - Power Menu doesn't seem to work. What's wrong?
A: At this time, you need to do a full restart of your device for the menu to work properly.

Q: There are errors when I try to install one/all of these patches. What can I do?
A: The Advanced System Menus patches you are trying to install/update most likely are conflicting with an existing patch that currently installed or at one time was and didn't remove cleanly.

You can do two (2) things to try and remedy your situation. 1) You can run the Emergency Patch Recovery tool (EPR) found in Preware or 2) Start removing some of your installed patches. Existing patches that provide the same functionality that these Advanced System Menus patches do will be the cause of the errors 9/10 times.
